LANGSTON, Okla. - Former Goodwell High School product
Quentin Fankhouser recorded a double-double for the Oklahoma Panhandle State University men's basketball team, but it was not enough to keep his team from a 75-66 loss on the road to Langston University.
In the first half, it was Langston hopping out to the early lead, ahead 19-14 midway through.
DK Sumo got a basket and one to cut that to 19-17 at the 7:46 juncture.
Jalen Williams tallied back-to-back three-balls, followed by a two-point basket, to put OPSU on top 25-24 with 5:03 left in the half…and it was game-on for the balance of the half. The Aggies would close out the opening segment with a 37-32 lead (the first time Panhandle has led at the intermission since its Nov. 5 game versus Barclay). Fankhouser's 11 points, along with Williams' 10, paced the Aggies in the first half.
Panhandle State was able to hang on to its lead until the 14:15 mark of the second half, when the Lions overtook them, 40-39. The Aggies never regained the upper hand after that point, forging only a 42-42 tie before Langston pulled away.
Williams matched his OPSU career high with 19 points. Williams was 5-of-14 from the field, while also converting 7-of-11 free throws. He had two assists and two rebounds, as well.
DK Sumo hit half of his shots, going 7-for-14 from the field, on his way to an 18-point effort, to go along with three boards and two assists.
After a couple of near misses this season, the sophomore Fankhouser notched his first double-double game as an Aggie. The Goodwell native booked 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. He was just 1-of-3 from the field, but tore up the charity stripe by going 11-of-14.
