FORT WORTH, Texas - The youthful Oklahoma Panhandle State men's basketball team found tough going in its first game of calendar 2020, falling on the road to NAIA No. 22-ranked Texas Wesleyan University, 90-50. The Aggie men fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the sooner Athletic Conference, while the nationally-ranked Rams improved to 2-1 in the SAC and 9-3 overall.
OPSU trailed from the outset and was never able to catch the Rams. TWU led 48-25 at the half.
Brett Williams led the Panhandle State scoring with 11 points, hitting 3-of-7 field goals. He also was 3-of-5 from there-point range.
Teammate
Daniel Holyfield had a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds (including 11 on the defensive glass). Holyfield – who was 5-of-10 from the floor – also had a pair of blocks on the defensive end of the court.
Freshmen
Michael Bagwill,
Cameron Ray and
Jalen Williams all had nice games for OPSU. Bagwill tallied nine points, with Ray and Williams booking eight points apiece. Williams also had a team-leading four assists.
Sophomore transfer
Quentin Fankhouser rounded out the Panhandle scoring with four points. Fankhouser also grabbed six rebounds, had one block and a steal.
OPSU will look to get back on track on Saturday (Jan. 4/ 3:45 p.m.) versus Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.
