PLAINVIEW, Texas – Junior
Shaylynn Choate continued her deft shooting from beyond the arc, despite Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's basketball losing an 80-59 Sooner Athletic Conference bout at NAIA No. 6-ranked Wayland Baptist University. It was the Aggies third loss to a team that was either ranked or received votes in the weekly coaches' poll.
The upset-minded OPSU squad kept close to the Flying Queens for the first two quarters. Panhandle was behind by just a basket, 20-18, after one stanza and was down by just six, 38-32, at the half. There were six ties and 15 lead changes in the opening 18 minutes of action.
But as the second half opened, so did WBU's lead over the Aggies. Panhandle was out-scored by a 20-6 margin by the Flying Queens in the third quarter, building a double-figure lead it carried through the balance of the game.
Choate went 4-of-10 from the field, 4-for-8 from three-point range, for 12 points against WBU. In her last three games, Choate has 10 field goals made, all three-balls. Versus the Flying Queens, she also shared the team lead with six rebounds (along with
Nadia Hayes).
