PLAINVIEW, Texas – An aggressive Oklahoma Panhandle State University women's soccer offense just could not find the net in its 3-0 loss at Wayland Baptist University. The Aggies (1-3) went toe-to-toe with the Pioneers (2-0) in total shots, with WBU holding a slim 11-10 advantage at Hilliard Field.
OPSU put four shots directly on-goal, while Wayland sent five on frame. Aggie goalkeeper
Mya Szymanski had two saves.
Panhandle State had five players –
Alyssa Kemp,
Brooklyn Yawson,
Emily Elliott,
Rayne Hudson and
Ariana Ramirez – with two shot attempts piece. Kemp, Yawson, Elliott and Ramirez each put one shot on-goal.
OPSU's attack forced five corner kicks for the Aggies. WBU had three corners.
Wayland scored in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room. A penalty kick at 64:07 minutes and another goal in the 84th minute – both by the Pioneers' Bianca Roman – accounted for the host's tallies.
Despite the loss, the contest was a far cry from the first meeting between the teams in 2019. In that match, WBU won 10-0 and out-shot the Aggies 48-0.
OPSU will next be in action on Friday, October 23 when it travels to Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Kick off in Waxahachie, Texas is slated for 1 p.m.
