Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Baseball Team made its way to Woodward, Oklahoma to take on Southwestern College (Kan.). The Aggies settled for the split against the Moundbuilders, losing the first game, 6-3, and taking the second by a score of 9-4.
Â
Junior
Austin Jacobs got the nod for the first game and went three scoreless innings until the Moundbuilders got to him in the fourth for three runs. He would eventually take the loss, completing five innings of work, recording six strikeouts and allowing three unearned runs on six hits. A great performance was a bit diluted with only three Aggies providing offensive support for Jacobs.
Â
Juniors
Markus Bracey and
Chris Galvan and sophomore
Jose Santiago all tallied two hits apiece. Bracey scored in the first off the bat of Santiago and then the Aggies did not score again until they scored one run in each the sixth and seventh.
Parker Boles also had a nice game, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Southwestern scored three runs in the seventh to put the game away and give Panhandle State the 6-3 loss.
Â
Game two proved to be a different story for the Aggie offense. At least that was the case in the first inning. Panhandle State put up nine runs in the opening frame on six hits. Boles rounded up another couple of hits while also driving in and scoring a run.
Aaron Moreno showed out in his first start in a couple of series. Moreno went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Â
The pitching for Panhandle State was key in this one. Senior
Charlie Marini came in relief in the second shut down the Moundbuilders for the rest of the game. Marini went six innings, gave up one earned run on three hits, striking out six. Marini looked to be in the mid-season form that he had last year just in time for Sooner Athletic Conference play.

Head Coach
Shawn Joy reflected on the midweek doubleheader: "Today was pretty simple, game one we didn't play Aggie baseball. Game two we did."
Â
Panhandle State will look to take their "Aggie Baseball" ways back to Woodward for a four-game series against Tabor College (Kan.) this weekend.
