GOODWELL, Oklahoma - In the first Mazzio's Classic the Oklahoma Panhandle State Men's basketball team split their two games against Bethany and Randall University. Dropping their first to Bethany with a final score of 80-65 and defeating the Randall Saints 84-107.
The Aggies struggled in their first game of the season against the Bethany Swedes. Only shooting 39% from field goal range in the game. However, the real difference-maker in the game was the number of times the Swedes made it to the strip, going 19-30 in the game. A bright spot for the Aggies, that would be far more evident in their second game of the classic, was their defense. Out stealing the Swedes 13 to 1 in the game. Looking to bounce back against the Randall Saints the Aggies came out strong offensively. Out shooting the Saints in nearly every metric on the day. By having a field goal percentage never dip below 60% as well as shooting lights-out from 3.
Over the Mazzio's Classic the Aggies were led by Senior
DK Sumo, Junior
Rayquan Elliott, and Sophomore
Jalen Thomas. Elliot would post team-leading 30 points over the two games, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Thomas would account for 28 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. Sumo put up an amazing performance against Randall, not missing a shot the entire game and finishing the Classic with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 steals.
With a decisive team win in their pocket Aggies look to hit the road in early November to face Southwestern College (kan.) (11/5) and Barclay College (11/9)
