OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - The Aggies men's soccer team headed into Oklahoma City to take on the undefeated #3 Evangels looking to not only take their undefeated record but also to generate some momentum as the regular season winds to an end. In another contentious game, ending with eight yellow cards and a single red card, the Aggies would tie with the Evangels after two overtimes.
In the first half, the Aggies would be the ones that would be more aggressive as
Yannis Sapim and
Tayze Ellington both would get shots off within the first five minutes of the game. The Aggies would continue to battle and weave their way through the Evangel defense trying to find the back of the net before the end of the half. Eventually finding it in the 39th minute from Aggies goal leader
Liam Pritchard. The Evangels tried to even up the score before the end of the half but could not do so as
Javier Torres held down the goal, finishing the half with four saves.
As the second half got underway neither team's offense would let up on their aggressiveness. The Evangels, however, would outshoot the Aggies in the second half. Despite the outshooting, the Evangels were plagued by being down a man due to the reception of a red card forcing his early departure from the match. The Evangels would push heavily into the Aggie side of the pitch in the 83rd minute. Goalie
Javier Torres made a leaping save on a high bouncing ball to keep the Evangels at zero. However, in the 81st minute, the Evangels would find the back of the net to even up the score before the end of regulation. Unable to answer the late goal, the Aggies took the undefeated Evangels to overtime.
Going through both overtimes neither team got many offensive chances to win the game for their respective teams. Neither team got a true shot off in either overtime. With a final score of 1-1 as the Aggies take the Evangels' perfect record. Looking to generate some more momentum against the Wayland Baptist Pioneers in Plainview before they head into the postseason.
