WAXAHACHIE, Tx – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie Volleyball team fought hard tonight in a rematch of the Aggies versus the Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) Lions. The Aggies currently tied for 5th in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), and the Lions seeded 3rd. The Aggies lost in 4 sets, taking the first set 26-24, 11-25, 17-25, 18-25.
The Aggies struggled tonight to get into a rhythm; however, it did not stop the fight and hustle for each point. Sophomore libero
Gracie Soza had 17 digs tonight, followed by sophomore
Mckenna Coppock with 12 digs and senior
Ashley Sanchez with 10 digs. The Aggies also had 5 service aces on the night to stress out the Lion serve-receive. Sanchez had 3 aces, and Coppock had 2 aces.
The Aggies had 41 kills on the night, and 17 of those attack kills came from Junior outside hitter
Essence West. Head Coach
Julie Allen stated, "Essence forced the lions to change their defensive position on her. She started the match attacking the line, then the next time in the front row, she attacked the left front. She showed great versatility and range as an outside hitter." West also produced 8 digs and 2 assists.
Idalisia Agbaosi and
Celenia De Leon Toribio also provide an offensive threat for the Aggies. Agbaosi hit .333, had 1 solo block, 3 assist blocks and, 2 digs. Toribio hit .222, had 16 set assists, 5 digs and, 4 assist blocks.
Next up for the Aggies is to head to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on Texas Wesleyan Rams tomorrow at 1 pm.
