Aggie Volleyball Fall in Four to the Rams

FORT WORTH, Tx – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie Volleyball team took on Texas Wesleyan University Rams this afternoon in the Sid Richardson Center. The Aggies put up a brave fight against the Rams. However, they succumb to the Rams in 4 sets. The Rams are currently in 1st place in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). 

The Aggies and Rams had many long rallies, aggressive attacks, and solid defense throughout the match. Fans saw in just set 1 over 12 lead changes and 7 tied scores. Finally resulting in an Aggie win with a score 25-23. Set 2, the Rams pushed the Aggies back on their heels. The Aggies struggling to get into a rhythm offensively, lost 18-25. Aggies regaining focus into the 3rd set had great success from the service line stressing out the Rams, producing 8 service aces in the match. However, the Rams were able to take control of the game and win set 3 and 4.

The Aggies increased their offensive attack with 45 kills, distributed by senior setters Lesly Galarza and Celenia De Leon Toribio. Galarza had 24 set assists, 5 digs, 1 kill, and 1 service ace. Toribio had 13 set assists, 5 kills, hitting .571, and had 1 block. Junior middle blocker Keera Parks had a solid offensive attack, hitting .176 with 5 kills and 3 blocks. Junior outside hitter Zoe Fry had 8 kills, hitting .167, and had 3 blocks. And junior right-side hitter Alanys Ruiz had 9 kills hitting .118. Junior outside hitter Essence West had a double-double against the Rams, with 16 kills and 11 digs.

Sophomore libero McKenna Coppock led the defense; she had 26 digs of Aggie's 66 digs. Coppock not only provided great digs for her team, but she also led the Aggies in service aces with 4 against the Rams. The Aggies had 8 service aces on the Rams. Senior Ashley Sanchez had 9 digs and 2 service aces. And, sophomore Gracie Soza had 8 digs and 1 service ace.

Up next for the Aggies is to host the last two matches of the SAC conference. Aggies will host Oklahoma City University Stars on Friday, November 5th, at 5 pm in Anchor D. Arena. And, Saturday, November 6th at 1 pm, the Aggies host Southwestern Christian University on a senior day.
