MCPHERSON, KS. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie Volleyball team began the second half of Sooner Athletic Conference play this evening, taking on Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK) Tigers. The Aggies swept CCCK in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-7, 25-12.
The Aggies had a fantastic start with a 7 to 1 point lead in the first set and from then never looked back. The credit goes to the Aggie servers, 10 service aces tonight compared to the tigers 1. Freshman
Avery Turner produced 5 service aces and
Mckenna Coppock with 2 aces.
The offense was led by setters
Celenia De Leon Toribio and
Lesly Galarza producing 16 and 14 assists and hitting .667 on the night. Head coach
Julie Allen shared "the setters utilized their hitters very well and, the team produced 39 kills, hitting a combined .364 on the night."
Essence West had 7 kills on 8 attempts, hitting .875,
Alanys Ruiz had 9 kills on 14 attempts, hitting .500 and
Rebecca Candido had 6 kills on 10 attempts, hitting .400. Middles for the Aggies had a strong showing as well,
Idalisia Agbaosi hitting 1.000,
Ebony Dykes hitting .667 and,
Keera Parks hitting .286.
Coach Allen stated "we showed not only a strong serving night, but a passing and digging night. Our Aggies were focused and running down balls that the Tigers hit,or tipped at them." Coppock led the defense for the Aggies having 13 of the 29 digs, followed by
Gracie Soza and
Ashley Sanchez with 4 each.
The Aggies are now 13-8 on the season and, 6-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Next up for the Aggies is to head to Langston, Oklahoma to play Langston University tomorrow, Saturday 1 pm.
