OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) released the All-Sooner Athletic Conference Awards. There are 12 student-athletes that will make first-team All-SAC, 12 student-athletes that will make second-team All-SAC and, 12 student-athletes that will make honorable mention.
Panhandle State Volleyball achieved an outstanding year with a 20-12 overall record and 12-8 in the conference had 3 players receive recognition honors for the SAC. The 3 Aggies were
Essence West,
Lesly Galarza, and
Alanys Ruiz.
"I am very proud of Essence, Lesly, and Alanys," Panhandle State head coach
Julie Allen said. "The Sooner Athletic Conference has many talented student-athletes and teams. The three Aggies are very deserving of their awards from the conference, and I look forward to next season."
Junior outside hitter
Essence West from Dallas, Texas, was selected to be on the First Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference. West was the first junior to be listed by the SAC Conference on the 1st team. In addition, she had received SAC offensive player of the week two times this past season. And, she had a fantastic season ranked third in the conference with 3.94 kills per game and a total of 383 kills, hitting an overall of .243. She also produced 182 digs, 32 blocks which is .33 blocks per game.
Senior setter
Lesly Galarza from El Paso, Texas, was selected for the Second Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference. Galarza ran a 6-2 offense for the Aggies. She led the team with 5.84 assists per set, .21 aces per game, and dug 2.07 balls per set. And, is currently ranked 6th in the conference for assists per set.
Junior opposite hitter
Alanys Ruiz from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, was selected to be on the honorable mention for the All-Sooner Athletic Conference. Ruiz had 2.24 kills per game, with an overall hitting of .204 and 0.38 blocks per set.
