GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Women's basketball team fell in their first conference matchup of the season to the Mid-America Christian Evangels 76-49. A valiant effort from senior
Cassia McCaskill, who led the team in points with thirteen.
The Aggies came out to a slow start against the Evangels as the visiting team got a quick 6-0 lead. However, McCaskill, Quintero, and Gonzalez would close the gap going three for six from behind the arc. A low-scoring quarter for both teams finished at 21-15 Evangels. The Aggie offense would dip somewhat coming into the second quarter, only shooting nine percent in the quarter. Struggles that the Evangels would take advantage of on both sides of the ball. The half would come to a close with a score of 39-18.
Coming into the second half, the Aggies looked to perform better on offense and grab more boards. By answering nearly every basket by the Evangels, the Aggies looked poised to make a run for the lead as the third quarter came to a close. However, the strength of the Evangels was not just their offense but also their ability to rebound. With the Evangels outrebounding the Aggies ten to five in the quarter, it remained difficult for the Aggies to have any offensive output. The Aggies looked to erase a twenty-four-point deficit as the fourth quarter got underway. Once again, the Evangels would keep the Aggies at arm's length by keeping their lead intact for the remainder of the game. The main point of contention for the Aggies was their ability to get the ball into their score's hands. Freshman
Briana Marquez would finish second in scoring with eight points while also totaling a single block and three assists.
The Aggies prepare for their second conference matchup against the Southwestern Christian University Eagles slated for this Saturday, November 20th, at 2 PM.
