GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Kansas Wesleyan University in its first home games of the 2021 season. The Aggies lost game one to the Coyotes (1-1) by a 10-4 score and bounced back to take the second game 5-2 at Aggie Field.
In game one, OPSU starting pitcher
Josiah Roundtree (0-2) gave up a pair of first inning runs before settling in over the next five frames. Roundtree allowed a single run in the fourth and two in the sixth, before being chased in the seventh. He was charged with eight runs, just four earned, striking out five and walking none.
Senior shortstop
Markus Bracey had the only Aggie multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Chris Galvan was 1-for-4, with a two-RBI double.
Jose Santiago and
Tucker Bond had OPSU's other two hits in the game.
In the second contest, it was Panhandle State that broke out early and never looked back to notch its first win of the 2021 campaign. The Aggies scored two in their half of the first and added three in the fourth.
Junior righty
Zeke Dougan (1-1) had an outstanding effort on the mound in picking up his first win as an Aggie. Dougan threw five shutout innings in his 6.0 innings of work, with his only mistake being a two-run homer to the in the sixth. He scattered five hits, struck out nine KWU batters and walked just two.
Austin Jacobs recorded a scoreless seventh to earn his first save of 2021. Jacobs struck out two Coyotes.
Senior outfielder
Chris Schraer went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Bracey went 1-for-2, with a run and an RBI, also walking twice.
Mekhi Edwards was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI double.
Santiago and Galvan had singles to round out OPSU's six-hit attack.
"In game one we beat ourselves," OPSU Head Coach
Shawn Joy said. "In game two, we believed in ourselves.
Zeke Dougan was outstanding for us. When this team learns to play to win, they will be fun to watch."
