WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University baseball team opened Sooner Athletic Conference play over the weekend, going 1-2 at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The Aggies (5-14, 1-2 SAC) split Friday's doubleheader – losing 5-3 and winning the nightcap, 8-2 – and then dropped Saturday's single game to the Lions (19-5, 2-1 SAC) by a 13-3 score.
In the game one loss, Panhandle led 3-2 after 1 ½ innings. But SAGU would add single runs in the third, fourth and fifth frames.
Aggie first-baseman
Lane Field went 4-for-4 in the game. Mekhi Edward was 3-for-4, with a single, double and triple.
In game two on Friday, starter
Blake Tucker got the win, going 4.1 innings and scattering six hits. Tucker had two strikeouts to his credit.
Austin Jacobs has 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and registering three "K's".
Senior shortstop Marcus Bracey led the offensive assault, going 2-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in.
Josh Jones went 1-for-4, but drove in three runs, thanks to his double.
Zack Madrigal also had a double in the Aggies' seven-hit attack.
The series finale was all SAGU, as the hosts scored three in the first and eight in the second. OPSU managed four hits versus the Lions, highlighted by Edwards' three-run home run in the third to account for all of the Aggies' runs.
Field had a solid weekend for Panhandle State, batting .639 (7-for-11), scoring a run as well. Edwards hit .400, going 4-for-10 in the series, with three extra-base hits and four RBI.
