Aggies take on the Rams in double header; Unveiling of the Carroll Gribble Field

GOODWELL, Okla.- The Oklahoma Panhandle State (OPSU), Aggies competed in a double-header today versus Texas Wesleyan (TXW) Rams. The Aggies played with great fight in both games, however the Rams were able to take the double-header. The scores to game one were Aggies 3-4, and score to game two were Aggies 3-6.  Prior to game one, the Aggies unveiled the sign revealing the name to the ballpark; Carroll Gribble Field aka "The Grib".

Coach Carroll Gribble not only was a student-athlete at OPSU, competing in football and baseball, from 1950-54, but later joined the coaching staff. Following a historic career as one of the most influential coaches in Panhandle history, Gribble continued his legacy in an administrator role. The Panhandle of Oklahoma has and always will be home for Coach Gribble; and now, has the honor of watching the Aggie Baseball team on a field named after him. "It is an honor," stated Gribble, and continued on "it's a humbling and exciting honor."

The Aggies took the field after the sign unveiling. The first two innings were tight, both teams struggled to keep a batter on base. It was not until the 3rd when the Rams were able to score three runs, leading the game. Later in the 5th inning the Aggies were able to score three runs and tie up the game. The momentum began with Logan Patterson hitting a single to short and getting an Aggie on base. Madrigral stepped up to the plate and crushed it out over the right field fence bringing Patterson and himself across home. Next up to bat was Mekhi Edwards, on a 2-2 count with the homer over the right field fence. The Aggies have now tied the game at the bottom of the 5th inning.

It came down to the 9th inning. The Rams were up to bat first, and able to get one run in before the Aggie's halted their run game. The bottom of the inning, the Aggies able to get on base but, the Rams defense showed to be too much. The final score was Aggies 3-4.

Highlights on our Aggie batters: Mekhi Edwards hit 0.500 and 1 RBI. Zack Madrigal hit 0.250 and 2 RBIs. Logan Patterson hit 0.750. Jose Santiago hit 0.500.

Game two started out as a defensive showing with 3 up and 3 down. Texas Wesleyan was able to get on the score board first, at the top of the second inning. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth for the Aggies to get on the score board. It started with Jose Santiago triple to left field, then Jonathon Applebury swung and hit a homer on a 3-1 count over the fence.  With Santiago and Applebury able to cross home plate, it was beginning to look like a closer game with the score Aggies 3-4.

At the top of the sixth inning, Texas Wesleyan was able to get three runs before the Aggies halted the Rams offense. The Aggies were able to put more offense together at the bottom of the sixth inning. Markus Bracey getting on base for the Aggies, then, with every opportunity took advantage to advance to the next base. Bracey was able to score for the Aggies off of Lane Fields' hit. However, the Rams were able to stop the Aggies in their tracks after the run, leading to an Aggies loss game with the score 3-6.
