GUYMON, Okla. – Panhandle State cowboys and cowgirls hosted their hometown rodeo this weekend at the Hitch Pioneer Arena. The Aggies gave it their best shot as the men's team placed third overall, and the women's team took eighth.
Seniors,
Cooper Thatcher and
Jade Taton, led the way for the men's team both dominating their respective events.
Taton split the long round win with 76-points in the Bareback Riding. He won the short go on Saturday afternoon with an 82-point score which put him first in the average for the weekend.
Thatcher set the pace for the Aggies in the Saddle Bronc Riding with an 80-point in the long round and 80.5-point score in the short go. He won the average with 160.5-points overall. Matthew Swaim stayed consistent throughout the weekend placing second in both rounds which put him second in the average with 152.5-points overall just behind Thatcher.
Ira Dickinson and
Sam Martin were the underdogs coming into the short go, but put together solid rides to keep them in the average splitting fourth and fifth together with 144-points overall respectively.
Brett Coffman,
Ean Price, and
Kyle Cavender also joined their teammates at the bucking chutes. Coffman split third and fourth with a 75.5-point score, but had a tough draw in the short go ending up seventh in the average. Price posted a 74-point ride followed by Cavender with 72-points, but both failed to make the whistle on Saturday.
On the timed event side of the arena, senior,
Whitt Crozier, grabbed the tenth place spot in the short go with a 10-8-second run in the Tie Down Roping. Unfortunately, some bad luck left him with a no time taking him out of the average.
Dolly Diodosio and
Wade Pettijohn made their way into the short round in the Team Roping with a 9.6-second run good for tenth place, but had a no time on Saturday.
Senior,
Sierra Fearno, was the lone wolf in the Breakaway Roping for the women's team this weekend. Fearno split eighth, ninth, and tenth in the long go with a 3.5-second run. In the short go, she made a solid run to place fourth with 12.8-second run leaving her fourth in the average as well.
Junior,
Savanna Morgan, monopolized on her consistently in the Barrel Racing with two identical runs of 17.37-seconds in both rounds. Morgan was third in the long round, and second in the short go which earned her second in the average.
Sydney Bottom made another strong appearance making the short round with a 17.55-second run. Bottom added a little speed to her run on Saturday afternoon with a 17.65-second run which put her sixth for the round and in the average.
Panhandle State cowboys and cowgirls will head to their final rodeo of the season in Colby, Kansas this weekend. At the end of the weekend the year end champions will be crowned, and see who will compete at the College National Finals Rodeo in June.
