GOODWELL, Okla. — Oklahoma Panhandle State University Athletics is proud to announce and celebrate that head men's and women's rodeo coach
Shelbie Rose was voted the Central Plains Region Coach of the Year for the sixth consecutive year.
Rose, who is in her first season overseeing the men's rodeo program as its head coach, has helped lead the women's team over the past decade as both an assistant and head coach. She also has been a leading ambassador for the NIRA and Central Plains Region Rodeo throughout her time at Panhandle State, including serving as Faculty Director for the CPR.
Her years as an athlete, assistant and head coach at OPSU have been marked by selflessness, grit, leadership and an unwavering commitment to furthering the rodeo programs' winning tradition.
Since the 2022-23 season, Panhandle State women's rodeo has finished within the top five of the Central Plains Region team standings every year, with the 2025-26 team knocking on the doorstep of that feat following its victory at Fort Hays State University, which took place April 16-18. The OPSU men currently rank fifth in this season's CPR standings, an accomplishment it has just missed out on the previous three years.
Rose and the Aggie Rodeo teams look to further momentum at the final rodeo of the season, its own "Doc" Gardner Memorial Rodeo held at Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena in Guymon, Oklahoma. Admission to the rodeo, set for April 23-25, is free, and a free live stream can be found at
