WEATHERFORD, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State rodeo teams had a strong showing over the weekend at the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo, as eight total Aggies made the short go-round. The women's team competed well, finishing in sixth place, while the OPSU men placed 11th.
Individually,
Helen Poer stacked a great performance in the breakaway roping, positioning herself second-third in the long go with a time of 3.2 seconds before taking fifth in the short go, placing the junior second in the average.
Women's Performances
Poer backed up her career day in the Aggies' last rodeo, combining for a time of 6.8 seconds at SWOSU to pick up the most individual points (115) of any Aggie over the weekend.
In goat tying,
Camree Slavin and
Kiley Slavin earned points for the team by placing tied fifth-sixth in the average.
Camree Slavin had the second-fastest first go at 7.5 seconds prior to her seventh-place short round, while
Kiley Slaving stacked rounds of 7.9 seconds, featuring a fifth-place showing in the short go.
Shanda Kier and
Falyn Thomson joined Poer in making the short go-round of the breakaway, but neither recorded a time. Kier's long go time of 3.7 seconds was ninth, while Thomson stopped the clock at 3.9 seconds in the opening round.
As a team, Panhandle State's 90 points were just 10 shy of fifth-place Western Oklahoma State's total.
Men's Performances
Luke Tippmann stayed consistent on the season, finishing fourth in the bareback riding in the long go-round prior to placing fifth in the short go. He managed to maintain his position of fourth in the average, posting scores of 68 and 72, respectively, in his two runs.
In the tie-down roping,
Porter Hall added 10 points to the team score after posting consecutive rounds of 12.2 seconds. His performances positioned him eighth in the average with the seventh-fastest combined time of 24.4 seconds.
Zane Kreikemeier also made the tie down finals following his first go-round time of 12.8 seconds.
What's up next: OPSU Rodeo heads to Hays, Kansas, for the Fort Hays State Rodeo from April 16-18, the Aggies' penultimate event of the season. The Aggies are then set to host their rodeo from April 23-25 in Guymon, Oklahoma.
