GOODWELL, Okla. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies hosted conference powerhouse Mid-American Christian University (MACU) Evangels, Saturday, September 11, 2021. MACU came in with a 9-3 record on the season and a huge road win vs Wayland Baptist the night before. Ranked #1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Aggies were set up for a battle in front of a rowdy Aggie crowd in the Anchor D Arena.
Set 1 proved to be a test on the Aggie blockers and passing. Aggies dropped the first set 20-25 with MACU hitting .484. Set 2 showed the Aggies change strategies and begin to slow the Evangels hitters down, keeping them to a .286. However, the Aggies were not able to get things moving on the offense. Aggies dropped the second set 25-19.
Set 3 was a complete transition by the Aggies on both offense and defense. The Evangels were nearly shut out at the net, only hitting a .077. The Aggies stepped up in a big way offensively as well. The Aggies never slowed down and they never looked back, winning set 3, 25-20 and winning set 4, 25-21. The Aggies forced a 5-set match and took the victory 3 sets to 2.

Essence West and Freshman
Olivia Cunningham were standouts for the Aggies, both with double-doubles. West had 20 kills and 19 digs and Cunningham had 11 kills and 10 digs. Aggies' offense was also highlighted by
Alanys Ruiz with 9 kills and
Zoe Fry with 7 kills. On the defensive end,
Keera Parks and
Ebony Dykes each totaled 6 blocks, followed by Fry contributing with 5 block assists. Sophomore Libero McKenna Coppock led the Aggies with 18 digs on the match.
The Aggies are currently tied for first place in the conference at 4-0 and 10-3 overall. They take to the road to face two competitive conference teams next week. On Tuesday, September 14
th the Aggies will play at Wayland Baptist at 7pm. And, on Saturday, September 18
th , the Aggies will play at John Brown University.
