Aggie Volleyball Sweeps University of the Southwest Mustangs

Box Score HOBBS, NM – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggie Volleyball team took on University of the Southwest Mustangs, at 5pm in the Jack and Mabel Maddox Event Center. The match was a non-conference match for the teams.
 
As soon as the first whistle blew, the Aggies jumped to take control of the match with serving and passing. The Aggies had 22 service aces on the match, a record high for the team. McKenna Coppock had 6 aces, followed by Essence West with 4 aces, Avery Turner and Celenia De Leon with 3 aces, Gracie Soza and Keera Parks with 2 aces each. Nora Castillo and Zoe Fry each had 1 ace on the night.
 
The Aggie offense was unstoppable; the team swung an impressive .421 in the first set, .364 the second set and, an unstoppable .467 the last set. The Aggie held themselves to only 11 hitting errors on the evening. The offense was led by seniors Lesly Galarza and De Leon, who provided the team with 34 set assists.
 
Offensively the Aggies had several hitters hitting very well.  West had 8 kills on 9 attempts, hitting .778. Eduarda Souza had 6 kills on 10 attempts, hitting .400. Alanys Ruiz had 8 kills on 14 attempts, hitting .357. Rebecca Candido hitting .500, Zoe Fry hit .429, Keera Parks hitting .250 and, Idalisia Agbaosi hitting 1.000.
 
Head Coach Julie Allen stated "the offense was running on all cylinders tonight. Galarza and De Leon did a great job with set selection and providing beautiful sets. They both made really great decisions on the court tonight and our hitters were able to capitalize on that".  Allen continues on "it was great to watch this team really come together and our defense hustled on all hits from the Mustangs. I am proud of the team."
 
The Aggies defense kept the Mustangs to single digit kills in each set and the Aggies had 27 digs compared to the Mustangs with 11. Libero, Coppock led the team with 8 digs for the Aggies.
 
The Aggies move to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in conference. This remains the best performance in program history.
 
Next up for the Aggies is to hit the road for two away games, on Friday, October 1st as they face Southwestern Christian University and Saturday, October 2nd to take on Oklahoma City University.
