Women's Soccer Continue Win Streak Over Southern Nazarene

GOODWELL, Okla - The Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-3) Women's soccer team continued their hot streak with a 3-2 win over Southern Nazarene University (0-1). The Aggies win today marks a few milestones for the program:

  1. First home-field win since 8/24/2019 over Texas College 1-0
  2. The second time in history, the Aggies have had a winning streak
  3. 1st program win over an NCAA Division II program

The Aggies offense began as Dajah Boykin found the back of the net in the 20' minute. Dajah scores off a great pass from Emily Elliot behind the back line, and she tucked it to the far post past the diving SNU goalkeeper.

The Aggies held the lead until the 51' minute when SNU got in behind the back line to score their first goal. The game became a battle back and forth, both teams having moments of ball control and good field placement.

OPSU came back strong, and able to score their second goal, by Regan Ake in the 67' minute. It happened when goalie, Mya Syzmanski made a save, turned and punted the ball 15 yards into the SNU half, and Regan Ake blew by the back line to volley home the second goal of the match! Head Coach Josh Davis said, "What a goal, just wow!"

The Aggies lead didn't last long, as SNU fought right back and tied the game up in the 69' minute.

Both teams continued to fight as temperatures reach the high 90's. In the 87' minute, Elliot picked up a loose ball in the midfield and played Becca Herriots on the outside. Becca collects the pass, beats her defender, and rifles the ball near post past the outstretched arms of SNU goalkeeper to put the Aggies up 3-2!

Davis shared his thoughts after the game, "wow, what a game! All three goals today were something special. I am so proud of this group and their willingness to grow and fight for each other! I love that we didn't give up today. This group continues to show an amazing amount of fight and desire every day. Hats off to SNU they are a solid team and exposed a few defensive issues we still need to work out, but I am thrilled with the current progress of our group! Thank you to everyone that came out to support us today. That extra energy from the stands today was big time! Go Aggies!"

Women's soccer looks to keep their win streak alive Wednesday, September 15th at 7 PM against Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
