GOODWELL, Okla. - The Panhandle State University Volleyball team swept the University of Southwest Mustangs handily in three straight sets, 25-16, 25-9, 25-20, in a non-conference match.
The Aggies took an early lead in the match and quickly established their dominance, winning the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-9. In the third set, the Mustangs gave the Aggies a challenge, which made the match more exciting. Kills, blocks, and points were traded back and forth between the two squads. The Aggies had an impressive hitting percentage of.271 during the match, which led to them having 31 kills overall as opposed to the Mustangs' 24. In addition, the Aggies out dug the Mustangs 47 to 53 and blocked the Mustangs 9-4.
The Aggie offense was primarily directed by setters
Remi Vargas and
Lesly Galarza. Galarza had 10 set assists and four digs, while Vargas had 17 set assists for the match. Galarza also had three digs.
Ava Newby provided OPSU with 12 kills and zero errors on 20 attempts, hitting .600.
Ebony Dykes finished the match with seven kills, hitting .353, and had two solo blocks. Defensively,
Gracie Soza had 14 digs, and
Ashley Sanchez had two service aces and 11 digs.
On the 22nd of October, the Aggies will compete against John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, at one o'clock in the afternoon.
