Aggie Volleyball Beat OCU Stars in three straight sets

Aggies place 4th in Sooner Athletic Conference

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State volleyball team defeated the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars in three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-14 to finish off their season in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC). The Aggies finish their regular season in the SAC with a record of 12-8 and a record of 20-10 overall. The Aggies and Mid-American Christian University currently share the fourth-place spot.

The match was a captivating battle between two competitors who fought for every point they could get. The Aggies' play exhibited a sense of composure and calmness while taking care of each play. The Aggies had not only had aggressive attacks all along the net while competing for each point but also served aggressively and dominated the blocking game.  The Aggies limited the OCU Stars to a hitting percentage of 0.008, which was their lowest ever. Ebony Dykes and Laren Baldowsky, who played in the middle blocker position, led the Aggies in blocks. Dykes was responsible for four total blocks (two solos and two assisted blocks). Baldowsky registered three total blocks, including one solo and two assist blocks. 

The Aggies were aggressive at the service line, leading to eight service aces compared to only four for the Stars. The Aggies' junior libero Gracie Soza was responsible for four of the team's aces. In addition, Soza racked up 18 digs for the Aggies.

Another double-double was recorded by senior outside hitter Essence West, who hit for 20 kills and had 11 digs. West hitting percentage was .231 on the Stars.  Angela Youngs, a junior outside hitter, contributed seven kills, two block assists, and a hitting percentage of .208.

Senior setter Lesly Galarza, who also recorded a double-double, was the driving force behind the Aggies' victory. Her stats included 27 assists in setting, 19 digs, and one ace serve.

Head coach Julie Allen stated, "I am very proud of our Aggies. The team did a great job coming in prepared, attacking the game plan, and not looking back. We have completed the season with a solid finish and are prepared for the conference tournament."

The Southern Athletic Conference tournament is up next for the Aggies to compete in. An announcement for the match date, time, and location will be announced soon.
