GOODWELL, Okla. - Panhandle State's women's basketball team fell to the University of North Texas at Dallas Trailblazers 82-78. In a game that saw seven lead changes and five ties, the Aggies would just come up a little short at the end of it all. Both teams are looking to generate momentum as they finish their last two games of the regular season.
Three Aggies reached double-figures in the game and everyone that saw the floor saw offensive action.
Tateum Jones and
Bianca Camello would both lead the Aggies with sixteen points.
Vanessa Gonzalez would not be far behind with thirteen points.
Panhandle State's (6-17. 4-17 SAC) three-point performance left something to be desired as they would shoot six for fifteen against the Trailblazers (12-16, 6-15 SAC). A key component of the Aggie offense that has struggled as of late. In their first matchup of the season the Aggies struggle with turnovers allowing the Trailblazers to continually capitalize and widen their lead.
Cassia McCaskill and
Laky Samo would reach double-figures in the 66-72 loss.
Forcing contested shots seemed to be the game plan for the Trailblazers. A team that comes into the game with a significant height difference with the Aggies. Due to the height difference that the Aggies have dealt with all year, the Aggies had to rely on more three-point attempts and mid-range jumpers in the game. A plan the Aggies pulled through pretty well as they would go three for four from beyond the arc in the first half. What helped the Aggies take a three-point lead into the half was their performance at the free-throw line. Missing only two free throws on eleven attempts.
Both teams came to shoot in the second half. Both teams would go shot for shot with each other for the majority of the second half. The only way for either team to make headway on the scoreboard was to prioritize rebounds and that is exactly what the Trailblazers did. Outrebounding the Aggies 21 to 15 in the second half alone. Accounting for seven Trailblazer second-chance points. With a higher offensive rebounding rate, the Trailblazers were able to keep the Aggies at arm's length at the final buzzer. Winning the game 82-78.
The Aggies look to rebound against the Southwestern Assemblies of God Lions Saturday, February 19th at 2 PM for their final regular-season game of the year.
