Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State Women's basketball finished their regular season on senior day against the SAGU Lions. The Aggies dropped a heartbreaker 80-72 to the Lions.
Four Aggies would reach double-figures against the Lions. Tateum Jones (11), Cassia McCaskill (13), Vanessa Gonzalez (12), and Briana Marquez (10) would all lead the Aggies in scoring.Â
Panhandle State's (6-18, 4-18 SAC) was ecstatic from beyond the arc against the Lions (10-18, 7-15 SAC). Dropping thirty points from the three-point line in the game. While the Aggies were effective in scoring, a late-game push from the Lions would subdue the Aggies as the clock would hit zero. The Aggies were slightly outrebounded in the contest, giving the Lions extra possessions and eventually second-chance points.
Limiting the output of the Aggies' leading scorer Cassia McCaskill seemed to be the focus of the Lions' defense. The Aggies would look for production from other players. Gonzalez, Jones, and Marquez would step up into that role. Accounting for thirty-three of the Aggies' seventy-two points. Â
In the first two quarters against the Lions the Aggies would have a one-point lead. While being outshot in the first quarter the Aggies would bounce back in the second quarter going seven for eighteen from the field and perfect from the line. By scoring points off turnovers the Aggies would create momentum going into the half.Â
As the Aggies came into the second half they looked to create more possessions on defense with defensive rebounds and creating turnovers. Although the Aggies would do just that with fourteen rebounds and four steals in the last two quarters of the game the Lions would shoot at a higher clip to maintain their lead as the game came to an end.Â
