Aggies Split Series Against Kansas Wesleyan

SALINA, Kan. - Panhandle State baseball entered the second day of their four-game series against the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes looking to secure a series win. After splitting the day one to the Coyotes the Aggies hoped to improve their discipline at the plate and put the ball in play more often.
Once again the Aggie offense came out hot in the game. Getting to an early four to nothing lead by the third inning off of back-to-back home runs. The Coyotes would not be scared of an early deficit as they would rally in the bottom of the fifth for eight runs. Going on to score thirteen unanswered runs in their 4-13 victory.
Refusing to drop another series the Aggies would come back and win the series finale 12-4. Highlighted by three back-to-back innings of solid Aggie play. Madrigal would throw out a runner at third to end a potential Coyote run, Nebhut would strike out three to sit down the Coyotes, and Hutchinson would start a six-run inning for the Aggies.
A long week for the Aggies has them looking toward a quick turnaround for their conference slate. Head Coach Shawn Joy would comment "we played hard this weekend and got to face some good pitching. Splitting the series on the road against a good team is a big step moving forward."
Game 1
The Aggies come into day two of the series looking to secure their first series win of the season. After having a hot and cold day on day one, the Aggie hitters look to show they're not one-hit wonders. However, game one of the day would not be their time to show their renewed determination. Tallying only six hits to eight strikeouts.
LHP Colton Anderson (1-2) makes his fourth appearance of the year in game three against the Coyotes. Anderson would be effective early, not allowing a run till the bottom of the fourth. As they entered their third time through the lineup the Coyotes would begin to start knocking Anderson around. Anderson would make way for Josiah Roundtree in the bottom of the fifth inning after going four and two-thirds allowing six runs and a single home run.
Senior Roundtree would make his first appearance out of the bullpen since the Aggies traveled to Arizona earlier this season. A forgetful outing for Roundtree as he entered the game against the heating up Coyote offense. An offense that would launch three two-run home runs off of Roundtree and seven runs.
As usual, the Aggies' performance at the plate starts on a high note but fluctuates based on the condition of the game. Frequent cases of strike outs and weak contact have limited the offensive capabilities of the Aggies. Ethan Hunt and Lane Field made an effort to get some momentum for the Aggies as they launched back-to-back jacks in the top of the third inning. However, it would not be enough as the Aggies would only have one more hit in the ball game.
Lane Field would highlight game three going three for four at the plate two runs and two RBIs. An Aggie leader who looks to continue to heat up at the plate and lead the way for the Aggies going forward.
Game 2
With another series loss staring them in the face the Aggies looked to buckle down and play a complete game in their last game in Kansas. Doing just that by capitalizing on Kansas Wesleyan errors and lax defense to put runs on the board. Despite the strikeout total in the game the Aggies found a way to bring runners across.
Joaquin Carlos made his second appearance and first start of the season for the Aggies. After an easy first inning Carlos would find himself in some trouble in the second. As the Coyotes would score three in the inning due to an Aggie error. Carlos would work around walks and HBP in his outing before giving way to Tate Nebhut. Carlos would throw four innings, allowing four runs on three hits.
Nebhut enters in relief for the third time this season to shut down the Coyotes. Coming into the game with a shaky start, Nebhut would settle down after a big play from senior catcher Zack Madrigal.  Nebhut would finish the last three innings of the game with no runs allowed and three strikeouts.
The Aggie hitters relied on the top half of the lineup for the majority of their production in game four. The top half of the Aggie lineup accounted for nine of the Aggies' ten hits in the contest. Four of those came off the bat of freshman Hunter Hutchinson. Unlike their previous games the Aggies, the offense stayed relatively productive throughout the entire game. Forcing the Coyotes to make outs by putting the ball in play leading to errors by the home team.
A long week for the Aggies concludes as they split the series with the Coyotes. Panhandle State returns to action for their first conference series against the Mid-America Christian University Evangels. Starting Friday, March 4th at 1 PM in Oklahoma City.
