Panhandle State drops midweek matchup to Rangers

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball team endured a windy day and welcomed the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers to Carroll Gribble Field for a brief break from conference play. The Aggies would fall to the Rangers for the second time this season.

With a banged-up starting nine, the Panhandle State Aggies reached into their depth against the Rangers. The Aggie bullpen would be in constant use in the game as no pitcher threw more than a single inning. Despite being without key starters, the Aggies would play clean baseball in the loss.

RHP Juan Javier would notch the start against the Rangers. Looking to get the bullpen involved heavily in the game, each pitcher would only complete one inning in their outing. Corbin Yandell and Joaquin Carlos would be the next to be out of the pen for the Aggies. Combining for four earned runs against the Rangers.

The Aggie pitchers would begin to dial in on the Ranger hitters as Carl McKenzie, Corbin Bailey, and Jostynn Mieses came into pitch around runners on base. Brandon Rodriguez, Tate Nebhut, and Braeden LeJarraga would finish the last three innings for the Aggies.

Without much of their senior leadership in the starting lineup, the Aggies needed to buckle down and focus on doing the little things right. By minimizing errors and strikeouts, the Aggies gave themselves a chance against the Rangers.

The Rangers would take a six-run lead into the fifth inning. As they capitalized on the windy conditions and pushed for extra bases. The Aggies looked to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth as Sam Bond led the inning off with a walk. Freshman Landon Finke followed up with a line-drive single to right field. Logan Patterson would load the bases up for the Aggies off a single of his own before catcher Zach Madrigal would line a bases-clearing double to get the Aggies on the board.

Half of the Aggie hits would come in the fifth inning. Unable to produce baserunners in the last four innings of the contest, the Aggies would drop the game 8-3.

Panhandle State baseball returns to conference play on April 1st in McPherson, Kansas against the Central Christian Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 12 PM.
