Aggies Tally Sixteen Hits Against Division II Southern Nazarene

WOODWARD, Okla. - The Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball team started their five-game non-conference slate against the Division II Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm. Dropping the single game of the day to a final score of 17-11.

A resurgence in offensive production has hit the Aggies as of late as they come in against the Crimson Storm. However, it was not enough to overcome the pitching troubles faced in the game. The Aggie pitching staff handed out ten free passes on the day to go along with the Crimson Storms' fourteen hits.

Zeke Dougan (0-2) would get the start and the loss against Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm would open with a big lead after scoring four runs in the first inning of play. After a shaky first inning of work, Dougan would settle down in his second trip out before making way for the bullpen.

The Aggie bullpen got some extra work against the Crimson Storm. As the seven different pitchers would enter the game after Dougan's exit. Colton Anderson would be the first called, striking out one in his only inning of work. Joaquin Carlos and Juan Javier would follow. Struggling through their combined innings and allowed five walks and seven earned runs.

Corbin Yandell, Braeden LeJaragga, Josiah Roundtree, and Tate Nebhut would finish the game for the Aggies. Each with their own efficient outing, trying to give the Aggie bats a chance. These last pitchers combined for fewer hits than each of the previous pitchers.

Looking to bounce back from a tough series against MACU, the offense looks to take advantage of a down Southern Nazarene team. Despite the Crimson Storm putting a quick four runs on the board, the Aggies would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. Kicked off by a lead-off double from Hunter Hutchinson. Followed up with RBI singles from Sam Bond and Jonathan Applebury

The Aggies continued to play from behind in the game. Senior outfielder Ethan Hunt tried to swing some momentum in the Aggies' favor as he belted a solo home run (5) in the bottom of the third inning. The bats would go cold for the next three innings. Down 12-5 going into the bottom of the six, the Aggies looked to make a late-game push. Giving themselves a good chance of doing so as they would score eight runs in the last four innings of the game. Unable to keep the Crimson Storm from answering their runs, the Aggies would fall 17-11.

A game to build off of for the Aggie offense. As every starter notched a base hit against Southern Nazarene. Luis Dermas would lead the team in hits (3) for the game and Manrique Mora would lead in RBIs (3). Ethan Hunt pulls himself closer to the program hit-streak record (15) and on-base streak record (19) with a two for five day.

Aggie Baseball returns to the field Saturday, March 12th in Amarillo for a double-header starting at 5 PM.
