Box Score BETHANY, Okla. - Panhandle State baseball avoided the series sweep by the Southwestern Christian Eagles with an 8-2 victory.

The series finale saw the Aggie bats return to form to evade their fifth straight conference loss. The good teams put together all aspects of the game to win. Head Coach Shawn Joy would say, "We played one of our best games of the year today. We pitched, played defense, and hit very well."

Freshman RHP Tate Nebhut would start only his second game of the year for the Aggies and earn his first win. Only lasting two innings before handing the ball off to Corbin Yandell. Yandell would be able to keep the Eagles off balance with a steady dose of his off-speed in his two innings of work. Swinging the momentum further in the Aggies' favor after an inning-ending double-play.

Zeke Dougan and Colton Anderson would be the next two up to finish the game.

The Aggies would have to deal with another deficit in game three. Going down 2-0 heading into the top of the third. Jhonn Cabrera led the three-run inning off with a hit-by-pitch. Cabrera advanced to third after a ground out from Ethan Hunt.  Jonathan Applebury and Hunter Hutchinson both walked to load the bases and set the stage for Manrique Mora. Mora would clear the bases with a double and put the Aggies up 3-2.

The Panhandle State offense would not call it quits there. Hutchinson would send a sacrifice fly to left field to extend the Aggie lead to 4-2. Ethan Hunt broke the game open for the Aggies with a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth. Mora and Hutchinson would both bring two more runners across as the Aggies extended their lead to 8-2.

Aggie pitching would lock in on the Eagle hitters and allow only three hits in the last four innings. Protecting the Aggie lead and avoiding the sweep.

Senior center fielder Ethan Hunt adds another record-breaking performance to his Aggie career. Breaking the single-season hit record (61) set in 2019 by now Assistant Coach Jared Mayeda. Collecting his 62nd, 63rd, and 64th hit of the season in game three.

Panhandle State baseball returns to Carroll Gribble Field for their last conference series of the year against the Oklahoma City Stars. Starting Friday, April 29th at 1 PM.
