Baseball Drops First Game of SAC Tournament

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - On day one of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies fell to the #4 Oklahoma City Stars.

A tough opponent, no doubt for the Aggies. " We played very well the first four innings. We just made too many mistakes on defense. Looking forward to tomorrow.", Head Coach Shawn Joy would say.

Contrary to the Aggies' regular-season series against the Stars, the Aggie bats were consistent in the game. Errors and leaving runners on base hindered the Aggies from getting on the scoreboard and chipping away at the Stars.

Senior RHP Zeke Dougan notched the start against the Stars. Dougan limited the high-powered offense of the Stars before the fifth inning. Making way for both Colton Anderson and Tate Nebhut to finish the game for the Aggies.

In usual fashion, the Stars built an early lead for themselves in the first inning. However, the Aggies seemed to be up to the pressure, as they answered with three in the top of the second. Three straight singles from Manrique Mora, Dylan Hughs, and Tucker Bond loaded the bases in the inning. Getting their first run across from a passed ball. Freshman Hunter Hutchinson gave the Aggies the lead with a two-out double to score Hughs and Bond.

Despite building some momentum in the second, the Aggies began to feel the pressure on defense. Three errors allowed the Stars to retake the lead and the momentum in the contest. The defensive struggles and inability to score runners in scoring position kept the Aggies off the board for much of the game. Leading to their game one loss, 16-4.

Panhandle State baseball faces an elimination game Saturday, May 7th at 11 AM.
