HOBBS, NM. – Oklahoma Panhandle State Volleyball team played a non-conference match at Hobbs, New Mexico, against the University of Southwest, the Mustangs. The Aggies are going into the match 6-2 from the past two weekend tournaments. The Aggies and Mustangs will meet twice this season, last night in Hobbs, and meet up again in Goodwell, Okla., on Oct 19 at 6 pm.
The Aggie volleyball team swept the University of the Southwest on the road. The Aggies displayed a balanced offense, with
Lesly Galarza and
Remi Vargas dishing out 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Senior
Lesly Galarza also led the charge in serving with seven service aces throughout the match. In addition, senior
Essence West threw down a team-high of 10 kills, her teammate senior
Rebecca Candido tabbed in another 5, and freshman
Ava Newby contributed another 6 through all three sets.
Defensively, senior middle blocker
Ebony Dykes controlled the net with 2.0 blocks.
Angela Youngs &
Essence West also contributed one solo block apiece. Junior
Gracie Soza handled the back row with a match-high eight digs.
Lesly Galarza &
Essence West picked up six digs each, and
Ashley Sanchez,
Bryanna Rosario, and
Remi Vargas rounded out the defensive effort with three digs a piece.
The Aggies are back in action in Goodwell, at Anchor D. Arena, on Thursday, Sept 1. They will face USAO at home; first serve is at 7 pm.
