MCPHERSON, KS. – The Oklahoma Panhandle State Volleyball team played Central Christian College Tigers of Kansas tonight, sweeping the Tigers in three straight sets. The Aggies won 25-16, 26-24, 25-16. Tonight's win for the Aggies puts the Aggies 11-5 overall and 4-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference.
Highlights from tonight's match. The Aggies were led by senior setter Lesly Galarza, who had 35 assists, four kills, and nine digs. Galarza provided her hitters with great opportunities as the team hit .239. Junior Angela Youngs had 14 kills on 34 attempts, with a .294 hitting percentage. Senior Essence West had a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Ava Newby had seven kills and 0 errors on 23 attempts, with a .304 hitting percentage. On the defense end, blocking was led by Senior Ebony Dykes, who had six block assists, and Joelle LaForce had four block assists and three kills on ten attempts. In the backrow, Junior libero Gracie Soza led the team with 24 digs. Senior Ashley Sanchez with 12 digs followed Soza and Junior Remi Vargas with ten digs.
Head Coach Julie Allen shared, "I am proud of the team tonight; Central Christian pushed us and we fought back. The Aggies did a great job staying composed, staying focused on the game plan and taking care of business." The Aggies held the Tigers to the lowest hitting percentage in conference play at .071. In addition, the Aggies had 47 kills on the night, 77 digs, and 19 block assists.
