Panhandle State Volleyball Beats Mid-America Christian University

Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Aggie Volleyball team, hosted Mid-America Christian University, Evangels, at 1 pm on Saturday, September 3rd. The Aggies go into the match 8-2 and 1-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), while the Evangels are 6-3 and 1-0 in SAC play. Fans witnessed a great battle between both teams, Aggies coming out ahead, winning with the scores of 25-22, 16-25, 26-24, 27-25.
 
Each set was a heated battle between the two conference opponents. The Aggies led the Evangels with 71 digs to 68 and 10 blocks to 8 blocks. The Evangels led the Aggies in kills, 56 to 46. However, the Evangels had more attack errors, with 29 to Aggies 23 and 11 service errors to Aggies 4. The match was full of tight battles at the net and long rallies.
 
Junior Remi Vargas led the Aggies with a double-double. Vargas had 19 set assists and 13 digs. Freshman Kensey Clifton had seven assists and four digs, and one ace. Freshman Ava Newby led the Aggies with 14 kills on 41 attempts, hitting .317. Freshman Bryanna Rosario had nine kills and seven digs, and senior Essence West had eight kills, 16 digs, and two block assists. Defensively, the Aggies had a strong blocking presence led by Ebony Dykes and Joelle LaForce and on the back row defense led by junior libero Gracie Soza and senior Ashley Sanchez. Dykes hit .286 and had two solo blocks and three block assists. LaForce hit .125 and had one solo block and two block assists. Soza had 11 digs, one ace, and six assists, and Sanchez had ten digs and two set assists.

Julie Allen, Head Coach of the Aggie Volleyball Team stated, "I am really proud of the fight that our Aggie Volleyball team showed today. MACU is a very tough opponent, and our Aggies did a great job starting with our game-plan, making in-game adjustments and, stayed fighting throughout the match. Today's win will continue to help us build momentum as we head on the road next weekend."
 
Aggies will hit the road next week. On Friday, September 9th, the Aggies face NAIA national ranking #13 Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) at 6 pm in Waxahachie, Texas, followed by a Saturday match, September 10th, in Fort Worth, Texas, against NAIA national ranking of #21 Texas Wesleyan University at 1 pm.
