OPSU Volleyball Shows Promise in Triangular at Baker College

The Oklahoma Panhandle State University volleyball team displayed a commendable performance at the recent triangular held at Baker College. 

In the first match of the day, the Aggies took on Baker College, resulting in a 3-1 loss. The match unfolded as follows: Baker College secured the initial set with a score of 25-10. Undeterred, OPSU stormed back in the second set with an impressive 6-0 lead, eventually clinching the set at 25-18. However, Baker College rebounded and claimed the next two sets, ending with scores of 25-17 and 25-13, respectively.

Leading the offensive charge in the match against Baker College was Bryanna Rosario, who notched an impressive 10 kills on 26 attempts. Rosario also showcased her defensive prowess by contributing 8 digs. Mia Sanchez skillfully orchestrated the offense with 14 assists and also contributed 5 digs. Ava Newby and the dynamic duo of Alanah Best and Emma Zuege combined for 13 kills, with Newby tallying 5 and Best and Zuege each contributing 4 kills. Julia Russell anchored the backcourt with 6 digs.

The second match of the day proved to be a formidable challenge for the Aggies, as they faced the Kansas Wesleyan team receiving votes in the rankings. Although OPSU put up a valiant effort, they ultimately fell short in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-21.

Bryanna Rosario continued to shine in the second match, leading the team with 6 kills and demonstrating her all-around skills with 11 digs. Kensey Clifton facilitated the offensive efforts by assisting on 10 of the team's 23 kills, while Mia Sanchez provided 9 assists.

Head Coach Nick Serowski reflected on the team's performance during the weekend stating, "Although the weekend didn't go quite as we expected, we did see the potential in the team that we know exists. We'll spend the next week in the gym, continuing to draw that potential out of the team as we prepare for our upcoming matches."

Looking ahead, the Aggies will be hitting the road once again on August 29th as they journey to Kansas to face Southwestern College at 6 PM.
