Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rubio's Penalty Kick Goal Not Enough Against Kansas Wesleyan University

GOODWELL,OK – The Aggies men's soccer team faced off against Kansas Wesleyan University in an intense non-conference matchup on Saturday evening. Despite a valiant effort, the Aggies came up short with a final score of 3-1.

The first half of the contest proved challenging for the Aggies, as they found themselves trailing 0-2 going into halftime. Determined to turn the game around, the Aggies entered the second half with renewed energy and focus.

At the 54:00-minute mark, a pivotal moment emerged when Junior David Rubio of the Aggies successfully converted a penalty kick, firing a precise shot into the net and putting his team on the scoreboard. Rubio's goal brought the Aggies within striking distance.

Throughout the game, the Aggies maintained their offensive drive, tallying a total of 11 shots as a team. Additionally, the team earned three corner kicks, demonstrating their strategic playmaking capabilities.

After the game head coach Garrett Kull stated"Obviously it was a tough result tonight. Losing is always hard but we learned a lot about ourselves. I'm proud of how hard this team fought tonight and going into halftime down two we found a way to make it a game.
We have to get better at defending set pieces. That's where games are won and lost at this level and it was the story of a night in which we didn't execute. We had plenty of chances to tie or even win the game but give credit to Wesleyan for closing out a hard competitive game.
This is a very optimistic group and I believe the tight bonds we have on this team will help us correct the course. When this team is at its best I believe we can play with anyone. So as a staff we walked out of the game disappointed with the result but proud of the hard work and spirit this team displayed tonight, we just have to rein it in."

Looking ahead, the Aggies will return home for their next non-conference matchup against Bethel College. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5th, and will kick off at 7:30 PM local time.
