Panhandle State University's volleyball team faced off against Wayland Baptist in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown tonight. The Aggies fell to Wayland Baptist with a final score of 3 sets to 1.
The first set saw OPSU taking an early 11-8 lead. However, Wayland Baptist surged ahead with three consecutive kills and capitalized on an OPSU error to regain control, ultimately winning the set 25-23. Wayland Baptist carried this momentum into the second set, clinching a comfortable 25-12 victory.
Panhandle State fought back in the third set. Wayland Baptist's serving errors provided the opening OPSU needed, and Joelle LaForce's three crucial kills secured a 25-23 set win for the Aggies. The fourth set proved to be a nail-biter, with Wayland Baptist narrowly taking the match 26-24.
Joelle LaForce was a standout performer for the Aggies, amassing an impressive 14 kills. Bryanna Rosario made her presence felt with three aces and contributed 11 kills. Kensey Clifton anchored the back row with 24 digs, also adding one ace. Mia Sanchez showcased her playmaking abilities by assisting on 33 of OPSU's kills. Head Coach Nick Serowski had this to say about the battle tonight, "We fought hard, in the end we came up a little short."
Looking ahead, the Aggies are determined to bounce back in their upcoming home match on Saturday, September 16th. They will face off against another SAC opponent, Southwestern Christian University, with the game set at 1 PM.
