GOODWELL, OKLA - The OPSU Aggies men's soccer team embarked on their conference journey as they clashed with Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, in what turned out to be a defensive battle.
In a hard-fought contest, both teams struggled to find opportunities, resulting in just one shot on goal for the entire first half. Unfortunately for the Aggies, Wayland Baptist University managed to capitalize on a penalty kick, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, a lead they would ultimately hold onto.
The Aggies displayed resilience throughout the match, mustering a total of 12Â shots, with 7Â of them being on target.Â
After the game coach Garrett Kull shared"It was a tough game. Wayland is a good team and tonight we went toe-to-toe with them. It's a disappointing result to lose on a PK but those are the margins in this conference. I was proud of the fight within the team and how well we have defended in every game. We have the right energy in this group but we didn't execute tonight and I think that was evident in the first half. The difference in the team is now we have been reminded of that feeling of losing and we've seen some guys step up in the team as leaders. So while the result wasn't what we hoped for we are still on track with how we are building this program for the rest of the season and the future."
Next for the Aggies is an eagerly anticipated conference showdown against Oklahoma City University. The match is scheduled to take place this Saturday in Oklahoma City, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM.Â
