Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies women's volleyball team showed remarkable resilience in their recent match against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions.
The Lions claimed an early lead by securing the first set with a score of 25-14, but the Aggies came roaring back in the second set. OPSU showcased their strength and commitment with an impressive 5-0 run, extending their lead to 10-2 at one point. Their impressive performance in the second set paid off, as the Aggies secured their only set win of the match with a final score of 25-22.
Despite the Aggies' valiant efforts, the SAGU Lions continued to show their prowess, winning the third set with a score of 25-19 and closing out the match with a hard-fought victory in the fourth set, ending at 25-23.
Head Coach Nick Serowski praised his team's response and resilience in the face of adversity, saying, "Awesome response from the team, especially after taking a pretty brutal loss to Texas Wesleyan last night. This is the team we believed existed at the beginning of the season, and we hope they can take this experience and build off of it going into the second half of conference play."
Key players for OPSU in this match included Ava Newby, who led the team with 16 kills and an impressive .385 hit percentage. Bryanna Rosario contributed significantly with 8 kills, 4 aces, and 9 digs. Mia Sanchez orchestrated the team's offense with 30 assists, while Kensey Clifton's outstanding defensive efforts resulted in 17 digs. Taylor Alsaid proved to be a versatile player, making 6 kills in the front row and contributing 9 digs from the back row.
