Goodwell, Okla- Aggies Football battled hard in the Oklahoma Ford Dealers Game of the Week but fell to Nelson University (TX) on the road, 31-21. Despite a strong second-half rally, the Aggies couldn't overcome an early deficit, with the host team pulling away in the fourth quarter.
The Aggies' offense was led by quarterback
Brandon Stephens, who threw for 203 yards, marking his fourth consecutive 200+ yard passing game.
Draylon Roberson made a significant impact, recording his third game this season with five or more receptions, including a 20-yard touchdown in the third quarter. He also electrified the crowd with a 92-yard kickoff return, marking his third kickoff return for a touchdown this season — the first Aggie to achieve this feat since Zacari Lavender in 2015.
After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, the Aggies responded in the second half. Stephens connected with Roberson on a 20-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter, putting the Aggies on the board. Minutes later, Roberson took a kickoff to the house for a 92-yard return, narrowing the Nelson lead to three points.
Nelson responded with a 24-yard field goal and another touchdown to extend their lead. The Aggies found the end zone once more late in the fourth quarter when Stephens hit
Teandre Newcomb on a 43-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 31-21, but time ran out before they could mount a final comeback.
On defense,
Zayden Hoots and
Aaron Acosta-Lewis led the charge with 12 and 11 tackles, respectively, recording their second game of the season with double-digit stops.Â
The Aggies will close out their season at home on November 16, facing Ottawa University Arizona at Anchor D Stadium at Carl Wooten Field in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM.
