Aggies Drop Weekend Series to New Mexico Highlands University

GOODWELL,Okla-The Aggies concluded their weekend series against New Mexico Highlands University with two losses on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies fell in both games, 7-22 and 3-4 against the Cowboys.

Game one: The Cowboys took an early lead, scoring in the second inning with a single to go up 1-0. They extended their lead with two more runs in the third inning, making it 3-0. However, the Aggies showed solidity, with Jeremy Dibartolomeo hitting a single in the bottom of the third to score a run, narrowing the gap to 1-3. The Aggies loaded the bases and brought in two more runs, tying the game at 3-3. Unfortunately, the Cowboys dominated the fourth inning, scoring ten runs and securing the win.

Game two: Ryota Kusumoto got the Aggies on the board with a double in the third inning, bringing in one run. Despite their efforts, the Cowboys maintained control, adding runs in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings to lead 4-1. Kusumoto again contributed with a triple in the bottom of the seventh, scoring another run to bring the score to 2-4. Isaiah Halton singled to score Kusumoto, but it wasn't enough for the Aggies to secure the win.

Leandra Tamaki had a notable performance, pitching five innings, allowing three runs off five hits, and striking out six batters.

After the game, head coach Shawn Joy said, "Getting swept is awful. We need to clean a few things up in time for conference. We've got a good ball club. Time to show it."

Looking ahead, the Aggies will return home to open conference play against Southwestern Christian University on March 1st. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
