GOODWELL,Okla-The OPSU Aggies kicked off their conference opener at home with a doubleheader against Southwestern Christian University on Friday afternoon, ultimately splitting the series with the Eagles.
It's worth noting that the Aggies ended a five-game home losing streak, with their last victory against the Eagles at home dating back to 2019.
In the first game, the Aggies were in a tight battle with the Eagles, tied 1-1 heading into the 6th inning. However, the Eagles managed to break the game open with five runs in the 6th inning, securing a 7-2 victory over the Aggies.
Josh Doerr started on the mound for the Aggies, putting in a solid performance with five and one-thirds innings pitched, allowing six runs off of seven hits while striking out four batters.
Brandon Rodriguez and
James Moya provided relief from the bullpen.
Jose Arrieta stood out at the plate, finishing 2-3 with a double.
Game two saw a turnaround for the Aggies as they came out firing on all cylinders. They exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning, with
Jeremy Dibartolomeo,
David Garcia,
Jose Arrieta, and
Kameron Kostial all contributing RBI hits. The Aggies maintained their momentum throughout the game, ultimately clinching a 14-5 victory over the Eagles.
Ryota Kusumoto performed excellently, going 4-4 at the plate.
Leandra Tamaki got the start on the mound for the Aggies in game two, pitching four and two-thirds innings and allowing just one run off of three hits while striking out two batters.

With the series split, the Aggies now focus on tomorrow's rubber match, where they will face off against the Eagles in a single 9-inning game. The first pitch is set for noon as the Aggies look to take the series from the Eagles.
