Oklahoma Panhandle State University Equestrian Team recently traveled to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, for the spring IHSA show. Under the guidance of Coach Kacey Ward, the team participated in a total of 16 classes each day, demonstrating their dedication and skill across various disciplines.
On Saturday, the team's efforts yielded notable triumphs, with Senior Mathew Tullock clinching a remarkable 2nd place in his open reining class, Senior Jayelynn Powell securing a commendable 3rd place in ranch riding, and Junior Kayla Rhoades displaying exceptional prowess with a 2nd place finish in level 2 western horsemanship. With a 5th place overall finish as a team.
Undeterred by the challenges, the team returned on Sunday with Senior Mathew Tullock claiming victory in the open reining category, and freshman Mitchell Ullom clinching the top spot in level 2 ranch riding. Senior Jayelynn Powell continued to shine, securing a commendable 4th place in level 2 western horsemanship, alongside Freshman Jolina Demann, who showcased promise with a 4th place finish in beginner western horsemanship. Again showing solid consistency finishing 5th as a team.
The OPSU Equestrian team looks forward to their next show in Las Cruces New Mexico at New Mexico State University.
