GOODWELL, Okla- The OPSU Aggies baseball team faced off against the Oklahoma City Stars this past weekend at home, concluding their series on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Aggies could not secure victories in either game, falling 5-8 and 1-9 in the doubleheader.
Game One Recap:
In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Aggies started strong, with Jeremy Dibartolomeo driving in a run with a single in the first inning. Jhonn Cabrera extended the lead with his second home run of the season in the second inning, putting the Aggies up 3-0. Jose Arrieta contributed with a run of his own, making it 4-0 in favor of the Aggies. However, the Stars responded in the third inning, narrowing the gap to 4-3 with a three-run shot.
Isaiah Halton added another run for the Aggies in the fourth inning. Despite the effort, the Stars surged ahead in the sixth inning, capitalizing on three solo home runs to take the lead 6-5 and secure the win. Leandra Tamaki started on the mound for the Aggies, pitching four and two-thirds innings, with relief appearances from Zach Mayhew and Brandon Rodriguez.
Game Two Recap:
The second game of the rainy afternoon turned into a pitching duel, with both starting pitchers combining for an impressive 23 strikeouts and allowing only three runners. Recent SAC pitcher of the week, Colby Diduch, showcased his prowess on the mound, pitching six innings and allowing just two runs off of five hits while striking out 13 batters. Jose Arrieta doubled in the sixth inning to score the lone run for the Aggies, but the Stars' offense proved dominant, scoring eight runs on eight hits to secure the victory.
After the series against the Stars Head Coach Shawn Joy mentioned"We competed well but we didn't make the plays when needed. When you play the best teams in our conference you have to make plays in winning time."
Upcoming Game:
The Aggies remain determined as they prepare to face Mid-America Christian University at home on March 22nd. The doubleheader will kick off at noon, with the second game following at 2:30
