Goodwell, Okla-The OPSU Aggies baseball team faced tough matchups against the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers in a conference showdown held at the Pioneers' home field in Plainview, TX. The Aggies showed resilience but ultimately fell short, losing both doubleheader games with scores of 0-5 and 4-7, respectively.
In the opening game, the Pioneers took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning and maintaining their lead.
Josh Doerr, making his seventh start on the hill for the Aggies, delivered a commendable performance. He pitched a complete game and allowed five runs off eight hits while striking out three batters. However, despite Doerr's efforts, the Aggies struggled to generate offense, finishing the game with four hits as a team and leaving eight runners on base.
The second game saw the Pioneers extend their lead to 6-0 after five innings. However, the Aggies fought back in the 6th inning, with
Jose Arrieta capitalizing on an error by the left fielder to score two runs, narrowing the gap to 2-6. Despite a late surge by the Aggies in the seventh inning, where they scored two runs, they could not complete the comeback, ultimately falling short with runners left stranded on base.
Leandra Tamaki pitched four innings for the Aggies, making his fifth start. Tamaki allowed five runs on six hits.Â
After the game, head coach
Shawn Joy mentioned, "Our pitching and defense gave us a chance today. We hit a lot of balls hard but not much to show for it. We need to find a way to get one tomorrow".Â
With the doubleheader losses behind them, the Aggies look ahead to the series' final game, set to take place tomorrow as a nine-inning matchup starting at noon. The team remains determined to bounce back and conclude the series positively.
