Goodwell, OK—The OPSU Aggies baseball team faced tough competition in Friday's doubleheader against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions, dropping both series games in Waxahachie, TX.
In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Aggies were outlasted by the Lions with a final score of 7-2. Standout performances came from
Israel Gandara and
Isaiah Halton. Gandara, with a perfect 3-for-3, scored once, while Halton's key RBI single in the third inning tied the game at 1-1. However, the Lions' consistent offense in the later innings proved too much for the Aggies.
Josh Doerr started on the mound for OPSU and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs on twelve hits.
Leandra Tamaki came in relief and held the Lions scoreless in her 0.2 innings of work.
The second game saw the Lions take an early lead and maintain it throughout, ultimately securing a 5-0 victory. The Aggies struggled to capitalize on their opportunities.
Colby Diduch was charged with the loss, pitching five innings and giving up five earned runs.
After the game, head coach
Shawn Joy said, "We had chances to cash in with runners on, but we didn't capitalize. We need to score tomorrow to win".
The Aggies aim to bounce back in tomorrow's game, which has a noon first pitch.
