Goodwell, OK—On Saturday afternoon, the Aggies baseball team played a nine-inning game against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU). Despite a late rally, the Aggies fell short with a final score of 7-4.
The game kicked off with a bang for the Aggies, as
Tucker Bond smashed a solo home run to left field in the 5th inning, giving OPSU an early advantage. However, SAGU swiftly retaliated in the bottom of the same inning, bringing the score to 3-1 in their favor.
SAGU continued to extend their lead in the 6th and 7th innings, capitalizing on a combination of solid hits and an OPSU error that allowed two unearned runs, pushing the score to 7-1.
The Aggies showed resilience in the 9th inning, mounting a comeback effort that saw
Ryota Kusumoto and
Isaiah Halton drive in three runs with their clutch singles. However, the rally wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, and the game ended at 7-4.
Esai Torres took the mound, delivering a solid performance with five innings and three earned runs.
Zach Mayhew and
Brandon Rodriguez stepped in as relief pitchers, with Rodriguez impressively holding SAGU to zero earned runs over 1.2 innings.
After the series, head coach
Shawn Joy remarked, "Three close games, but we came up short all weekend. We still have a lot to play the next few weeks."
The Aggies will hit the road again on April 19th and 20th, heading to Chickasha, OK, to take on the University of Science and Arts.
