OPSU Names Jared Mayeda as New Head Baseball Coach

GOODWELL, Okla. – The Aggies baseball program is entering a new era with the appointment of Jared Mayeda as the new head coach. Known for his dedication, leadership, and amazing track record, Mayeda is poised to elevate the team.
 
Athletic Director Victor Esparza expressed his excitement about the new appointment: "We are extremely excited to have Coach Mayeda lead our baseball program. His commitment to excellence and passion for developing student-athletes make him the perfect fit for our team."
 
President Julie Dinger added, "Coach Mayeda embodies the values and dedication we strive for at OPSU. His leadership and vision will undoubtedly take our baseball program to new heights."
Mayeda's journey from a standout player to a respected coach is a testament to his dedication to the sport and his relentless dedication to OPSU.
 
 
Growing up in Cypress, California, Jared Mayeda's passion for baseball started at a young age. He honed his skills at Long Beach City College, where he contributed to two South Coast Conference Championship teams.
 
At OPSU, where Mayeda left an indelible mark as a player. Mayeda's playing career was spectacular, ranking 2nd all-time in career batting average, 3rd in single-season hits, and 4th in career hits at OPSU. His stellar performance earned him the 2019 SAC All-Conference Gold Glove and the 2017 SCC All-Conference Utility honors.
 
Mayeda's transition from player to coach was seamless. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at OPSU in 2019, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the program. His dedication and expertise were recognized beyond the university, leading him to manage the renowned summer team, the Liberal Bee Jays.
 
 
Under his leadership, the Bee Jays achieved remarkable success, including a runner-up finish in the 2022 NBC World Series and a quarter-finalist spot in the 2023 series. His teams also clinched the Rocky Mountain League Championship in 2022 with a 34-6 record and were runners-up in 2023 with a 30-13 record.
 
Mayeda's coaching accolades are impressive. He received the 2020 Sooner Athletic Conference Champions of Character Award, a testament to his commitment to sportsmanship and integrity. He has also coached seven SAC All-Conference players and guided six players to professional contracts.
 
Mayeda's educational background includes a Master's degree from East Central University, a Bachelor's degree from OPSU, and an Associate's degree from Long Beach City College.
 
Mayeda stated "I am excited for the opportunity to be the next head baseball coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. This storied university holds a close place in my heart, as it is my alma mater. We have a great opportunity to continue to build on a rich tradition here at OPSU.
