GOODWELL, Okla. — The Oklahoma Panhandle State University volleyball team showcased grit and determination in a thrilling five-set battle against Wayland Baptist University on Tuesday night at Anchor D Arena but ultimately fell short, losing 19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 10-25, 9-15. Despite the loss, the Aggies proved they are a force to be reckoned with, pushing the Pioneers to the limit in front of an energized home crowd.
The Aggies, now 3-5 on the season, put up an impressive fight, recovering from an early setback to win the second and third sets. The offense came alive with dynamic hitting from Brenna Moore with 11 kills, Taylor Silva, and Taylore Alsaid both recording nine kills. Moore led the Aggie attack, while Silva shined on both ends of the court, leading the team in digs with 24, alongside her nine kills.
"This game was kind of a rollercoaster for us," said Head Coach Myers. "We had really high highs and really low lows. This game was a very good learning experience for us. Overall, I am happy with the standard we have set for the rest of our games this season."
In addition to Silva's defensive game, Teagan Mendoza-Werner anchored the back row with 15 digs, and Taylore Alsaid added 14 digs to complement her offensive contributions. Cami Kenny was a defensive powerhouse at the net, leading the Aggies with four blocks, while Alsaid and Moore each chipped in with two blocks. The Aggies tallied 43 kills in the match but struggled in the fourth and fifth sets.
Panhandle State's service game was also highlighted by three aces—one from Taylor Silva, Ava Newby, and Nyah Ulmer. Ulmer led the offense with 25 assists and added ten digs, while Mia Sanchez and Teagan Mendoza-Werner also contributed key assists.
Despite the tough loss, the Aggies' ability to battle back and take the second and third sets from Wayland Baptist is a promising sign for the rest of the season.
