Goodwell, OK — The OPSU Aggies football team faced off against the #18 Texas Wesleyan Rams in a much-anticipated homecoming clash. Despite weather delays that halted the game for nearly an hour due to rain and lightning, the Aggies ultimately fell 49-21 in front of their home crowd.
A highlight came in the second quarter when
Draylon Roberson returned a 97-yard kickoff for a touchdown, cutting the Rams' lead to 14-7.
Brandon Stephens connected with
Teandre Newcomb for a 30-yard touchdown strike, and then, with just over a minute left in the game, Stephens found
Justin Lewis for a 12-yard score, capping a 7-play, 68-yard drive.
Stephens finished the day with 163 yards and two touchdowns, completing 15 of 27 passes.
Defensively, the Aggies were led by
Josiah Flores, who racked up nine total tackles, and
Tyvonne Jeffrie, who added six tackles and a pass breakup.
Aaron Acosta-Lewis made his presence felt with a sack, forcing a fumble as part of his 5-tackle performance.
The Aggies now focus on the road, where they will face Arkansas Baptist College. The game is set for Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 6:00 PM in Little Rock, AR.
