Goodwell, OK– The women's soccer team made history by winning its first conference road game. The Aggies were 0-27-1 in conference road games, but they made this their first-ever road win and shutout against a conference opponent with a 3-0 victory over Central Christian College.
The Aggies had struggled against the Tigers in previous matchups, holding a 0-5-1 record.
Jacqueline Escalera scored in the 12th minute, marking her third season goal. In the 38th minute,
Emma Daskalov added another, her second of the season, doubling the Aggies' lead before halftime. Daskalov wasn't done yet, securing her brace in the 85th minute, assisted by
Briana Alvarez.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper
AlaraLynn Gunderson was rock-solid, playing the full 90 minutes and making two key saves.
After the win, head Coach
Ken McAlpine stated,"The team stepped up and showed up for a big game today. I thought the energy and focus were there from the starting whistle, and the team had a good balance of composure and urgency. Emma put in a couple of goals for us, but before that, her commitment to winning 50/50 balls and her defensive work rate really got her into the game. Lulu had a great engine and did well winning balls back for us and controlling the midfield. The backline had a very good game on both sides of the ball. It's a great way to start conference play—the whole team rose to the occasion, and we will continue to build and get better moving forward."
The Aggies took 15 shots, six on goal, while the defense held Central Christian to just two shots on target.
Emma Daskalov led the charge with three shots, two on goal, and two goals. Escalera and
Yaddelis Alderete kept the pressure on with multiple attempts, while the Aggies' defense, led by
Emily Chavez and
Lindsey Harris, ensured that Gunderson had a quiet night.
Up Next: The Aggies will look to build on this momentum as they head to Waxahachie, TX, to face Nelson on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 5:00 PM.
